High Potential Individual visa
A short, unsponsored route for recent graduates of universities appearing on a Home Office list of eligible institutions.
Who this route is for
People who graduated within the last five years from a university on the Home Office global universities list, meeting English language and financial requirements.
Typical timeline
Granted for a fixed period based on your qualification level; see GOV.UK for the current length and processing times.
What this means for your job search
This is a time-limited permission to work, not a long-term route in itself. You can take any job while it lasts, but to stay beyond it you will normally need to switch into a sponsored route such as Skilled Worker, so target employers who hold a sponsor licence from the start.
This is general information, not legal advice. Immigration rules change and individual cases differ — check the official source and, where it matters, talk to an immigration attorney.
