KV | Staff Software Engineer

We’re seeking a staff engineer to help found a team that will build an AI-native venture firm 6-12 months ahead of the state of the art. This role will be located in Menlo Park, CA and report directly to Eric Johnson https://www.linkedin.com/in/edjresume/, Operating Partner, former CTO at Gitlab and board member of the Linux foundation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• AI that is always on, reacting to events, alerting the right people, and taking actions autonomously

• AI agents that continuously research markets, technologies, companies, and people.

• Systems that turn fragmented internal and external information into a durable institutional knowledge base.

• Agentic workflows for sourcing, diligence, portfolio support, and firm operations.

• Research systems capable of synthesizing large quantities of structured and unstructured information.

• Internal products that make investors and operating partners dramatically more effective.

• Data infrastructure connecting proprietary KV data with public and commercial datasets.

• Evaluation systems that tell us whether AI-generated research and analysis is actually correct and useful.

QUALIFICATIONS

• 5+ years of full-stack software engineering experience in enterprise technology

• At least one 0-to-1 build: a startup, new product line, or significant internal AI platform

• Strong product instincts: comfortable talking to non-technical stakeholders and translating fuzzy needs into shipped tools

• Experience working with LLMs/AI tooling in production (agents, voice, RAG, structured data extraction, etc)

• Self-directed, resourceful, and able to prioritize without heavy process

• Genuine interest in venture capital, startups, or the KV portfolio ecosystem

• Implementing a security model to protect sensitive firm and portfolio company data

• Excellent judgment around data sensitivity and confidentiality (dealing with sensitive financial and personal data)

• Capable of shipping fast while maintaining a high quality bar

• Making technology and vendor choices
