The Role We are seeking a hands-on EHS Compliance Specialist to help manage day-to-day safety and environmental activities across our growing operations. This person will spend significant time in the field conducting inspections, checking conditions, and working with employees. They will also keep regulatory obligations organized and on schedule. The role will work closely with the Site Safety Manager, operations teams, and outside agencies. A practical safety background is important, but the main focus is following through on permits, inspections, records, submissions, and corrective actions. Key Responsibilities Maintain a compliance calendar for permits, renewals, inspections, training, reporting, and recurring submissions. Track deadlines and follow each item through completion. Maintain records and update required information in regulatory systems, including CERS, as applicable to the facility and its operations. Support compliance activities involving CUPA, CalARP, ATF, fire authorities, DCMA, and other agencies relevant to our sites. Coordinate agency visits and inspections, prepare requested records, accompany inspectors on site, document findings, and track responses and corrective actions. Establish and carry out daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual site inspection schedules. Document findings and follow up until issues are resolved. Inspect work areas, chemical and hazardous-material storage, hazardous-waste areas, emergency equipment, and selected PPE and respiratory-protection equipment. Help maintain chemical inventories, container labeling, safety data sheets, and Hazard Communication records. Coordinate with hazardous-waste vendors and support waste documentation, including manifests and shipment records. Assist the Site Safety Manager with training schedules, training delivery, attendance records, and refresher requirements. Work with employees, contractors, and vendors to address compliance or safety concerns identified in the field. Keep records accurate, organized, and readily available for internal reviews and agency inspections. Escalate concerns that need a technical or management decision. Required Qualifications Experience in EHS, regulatory compliance, environmental programs, or a related role in an industrial setting. Ability to interpret requirements, manage multiple deadlines, maintain accurate records, and follow open items through completion. Experience conducting site inspections and documenting findings and corrective actions. Working knowledge of chemical handling, labeling, Hazard Communication, or hazardous-waste practices. Confidence communicating with field personnel, management, vendors, and agency representatives. Comfortable working independently both in the field and at a computer. a minimum amount of years of experience (i.e. 1-2+ years of hands-on Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) or industrial safety experience in manufacturing, aerospace, heavy industry, chemical processing, construction, test operations, energy, or a similar industrial environment.) High school diploma or GED required. Associate degree, technical/trade education, or coursework in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Fire Science, Industrial Technology, or a related field preferred. Preferred Qualifications Experience with CUPA, CERS, CalARP, ATF, DCMA, or fire authority inspections and submissions. Familiarity with DoD 4145 requirements, energetics, propellants, or aerospace test operations. Hazardous-material or hazardous-waste management experience, including vendor coordination and manifests. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30, HAZWOPER, and CPR/First Aid/AED training. Additional Requirements Available to work extended hours and weekends as needed This role includes frequent walking and standing at active industrial sites, including outdoor work in direct sun, heat, cold, wind, dust, and uneven terrain. It also requires regular computer work for tracking, submissions, reporting, and recordkeeping. Required training and PPE will be provided for assigned duties. Ability to lift, carry, push, or move up to 50 pounds as needed to support safety equipment, PPE, emergency-response equipment, inspections, and other field activities. Ability to regularly walk, stand, bend, climb stairs, and work on uneven surfaces for extended periods while performing field-based safety activities.
