Chief of Staff

Nebex

New York City

About this role

ABOUT NEBEX

Nebex is a venture-backed space fintech company building an exchange for global space procurement and institutional-grade market infrastructure for the global space economy.

The platform enables governments, enterprises, prime contractors, startups, and commercial participants to discover, procure, contract, and execute complex, cross-border, space-related transactions through a unified market and intelligence layer.

Nebex combines procurement infrastructure, market operations, verification systems, and data-driven intelligence to improve how space capabilities are sourced, financed, and delivered across jurisdictions.

The company is focused on enabling scalable coordination across the global space ecosystem to unlock more efficient execution, better capital allocation, and improved delivery outcomes across supply chains.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Nebex is seeking a highly strategic, execution-focused Chief of Staff to serve as the direct strategic partner, operational engine, and force multiplier to the Chief Executive Officer, Tejpaul Bhatia. This is a hands-on operator, strategist, and results-driven role for someone who seamlessly balances high-level strategy with operational excellence and radical ownership.

Nebex is continuously driving high-stakes global relationships with world leaders, sovereign governments, commercial space suppliers, and prime contractors. The Chief of Staff will navigate all organizational, strategic, and hands-on operational dimensions of these critical relationships.

We need an exceptional executive partner who is equally comfortable sitting in high-level multilateral forums (such as United Nations assemblies and executive negotiations) as they are rolling up their sleeves to manage administrative minutia, draft high-stakes correspondence to world leaders, drive special projects, organize team happy hours, or scout upcoming industry conferences for the CEO.

The ideal candidate brings deep, holistic expertise in the space industry ecosystem, combined with a proven track record in Chief of Staff or senior operations roles.

RESPONSIBILITIES

EXECUTIVE REPRESENTATION & STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP

  • Serve as a direct strategic partner, operational operator, and force multiplier to CEO Tejpaul Bhatia across high-priority sovereign, institutional, and commercial initiatives.
  • Represent Tejpaul Bhatia and Nebex in critical meetings with world leaders, space agencies, commercial space suppliers, prime contractors, and global institutions when necessary, while managing the operational follow-through and correspondence required.
  • Attend high-stakes multilateral forums (including United Nations meetings and sovereign delegations), capturing critical dynamics and synthesizing actionable debriefs back to leadership to enable real-time decision-making.
  • Navigate the complex organizational, tactical, and relational sides of Tejpaul Bhatia’s ongoing global dealmaking and partnership development.

OPERATIONAL EXECUTION & ORGANIZATIONAL ALIGNMENT

  • Translate high-level strategic directives from CEO conversations into clear execution roadmaps, tracking dependencies across teams.
  • Drive executive preparation for board meetings, investor briefings, and sovereign delegation visits.
  • Enforce organizational alignment, executive meeting cadences, and cross-functional accountability across leadership.

SPACE ECOSYSTEM & RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT

  • Leverage deep domain knowledge of the space ecosystem to evaluate sovereign procurement needs, supplier capabilities, and financing structures.
  • Coordinate across Legal, Finance, Product, and Commercial Operations to keep key international deals moving rapidly toward completion.
  • Maintain continuity across high-level external discussions, ensuring agreed actions, commitments, and follow-ups are rigorously executed.

SPECIAL PROJECTS & CULTURE ("KEEPER OF THE VIBE")

  • Roll up sleeves to tackle special projects and handle minutia, from drafting formal letters to world leaders to scouting and vetting global conferences for Tejpaul Bhatia.
  • Act as the "Keeper of the Vibe" by organizing team happy hours and internal events, as well as fostering an energetic, high-performance company culture with the mentality that no task is too small.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years of professional experience spanning executive strategy, operations, business development, or management consulting.
  • Must have prior experience in a Chief of Staff or senior operational leadership role supporting C-suite executives in high-velocity environments.
  • Deep, holistic space industry experience: Comprehensive understanding of the global space ecosystem, including sovereign space agencies, commercial suppliers, prime contractors, and space tech infrastructure.
  • Executive Synthesis & High-Stakes Representation: Proven capability to represent the CEO in global forums, absorb complex geopolitical and commercial nuances, and deliver precise, high-fidelity debriefs back to leadership.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with executive-level presence and discretion.
  • Demonstrated radical ownership, with the ability to manage multiple complex workstreams, roll up sleeves on task minutia, and navigate ambiguity under time pressure.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and relational judgment.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Nebex offers a competitive compensation package aligned with experience, role scope, and market benchmarks. This includes a combination of base salary, performance-based incentives where applicable, and eligibility to participate in the company’s equity programs.

Employees are also eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, which may include health coverage, retirement savings options, and other company-sponsored benefits. Specific details will be discussed during the interview process.

REPORTING STRUCTURE

  • Reports to: Chief Executive Officer (Tejpaul Bhatia)
  • Location: In-office role at Nebex HQ in New York City (5 Penn Plaza)
  • Collaborates with: Chief Operating Officer (Anand Subramanian), Head of Talent, executive leadership, BD, Product, Legal, Finance, and Operations teams.

REQUIRED TRAITS AT NEBEX

Nebex operates in a high-performance environment where expectations are elevated and outcomes matter. We look for individuals who demonstrate radical ownership: proactively driving results without waiting for direction, taking on both high-level strategy and granular minutia without ego, and holding themselves fully accountable for outcomes. The pace of the company requires exceptional learning velocity, which is the ability to rapidly understand new domains, systems, and challenges and translate that understanding into execution. Strong judgment is critical; candidates must be able to make sound, independent decisions with incomplete information and under time pressure.

We value people who are relentlessly execution-focused and operate with a "no job is too small" mindset, prioritizing results over process and consistently delivering against ambitious goals. Whether writing diplomatic letters to world leaders or organizing a team happy hour, you take equal pride in execution excellence. The environment is often ambiguous and fast-changing, so comfort operating without clear structure is essential. Clear, direct communication is expected at all levels, with the ability to convey complex ideas concisely and align cross-functional teams effectively.

Finally, Nebex is a team of high performers, and every individual is expected to raise the standard. This means collaborating effectively, maintaining a high level of professionalism, and contributing to a culture of accountability, intensity, and continuous improvement.

EQUAL OPPORTUNITY STATEMENT

Nebex is an equal opportunity employer and values diversity of background, experience, and perspective.
