Mechanical Technician
Omen AI
About this role
Location: Irvine, CA (In-person) Who We Are Omen is miniaturizing lab-grade spectroscopy into field-deployable embedded sensors. Our systems deliver PPM-level trace analysis on the fluids inside industrial machines and datacenters. That lets us catch wear trends like bearing failures or coolant contamination in real time, weeks to months before a catastrophic failure. We raised a $31M Series A led by Nava Ventures in June 2026. Our team is a tightly knit group of builders, dropouts, and industry veterans. We don't build things that are good enough; we build things that are 100x better. The Challenge We are moving from prototypes to fielded hardware across two systems: Omen Scout: for closed-loop hydraulic and lubricating oils. Omen Sentry: for direct-to-chip liquid cooling loops (typically water/glycol mixtures). Our Irvine engineers need parts, fixtures, and prototype builds turned around fast. We need a hands-on technician who can take a drawing or a rough sketch and come back with a finished part or a working assembly, so the team can iterate faster. This is not a production line. What You Will Do Build Prototypes and Test Rigs: Assemble sensor prototypes, sub-assemblies, and the rigs we test them on, working from drawings, sketches, and quick conversations with engineers. Make Parts and Fixtures: Machine one-off parts, fixtures, and tooling on our mills and lathes, often the same day they're needed. Plumb and Test: Build the oil and coolant loops our sensors run on, help run leak, pressure, and flow tests, and report what you see back to engineering. Keep the Shop Ready: Maintain machines and tools, track materials and stock, and keep the shop safe and organized for the next build. What We Are Looking For 3+ years of hands-on mechanical work as an R&D, prototype, or test technician, or as a machinist who also assembles what they make. You work from drawings (including GD&T), sketches, and CAD models, and you check your own work with calipers, micrometers, and gauges. You have built prototype assemblies, fixtures, or test rigs yourself, from raw parts to a finished build. You work directly with engineers, take a rough request to a finished part on your own, and speak up when a design will be hard to make. Nice to Have Machinist experience: setting up and running mills and lathes, manual or CNC, to make parts and fixtures. This is the biggest plus for this role. Fluid systems: tubing and fittings (Swagelok, AN), pumps, and leak or pressure testing. A mix of mechanical and electrical skills (wiring, soldering, sensors), or a track record of building things on your own outside work. Compensation & Benefits Base Range of 100k to 160k + Equity Benefits - 100% medical, dental & vision coverage (for you) - Flexible PTO - WFH setup stipend - Free food & snacks - Daily in-office dinner provided Why Omen? We take physics seriously, but we don't let red tape slow us down. You will be the person who turns our engineers' ideas into real parts and working hardware. If you like building with your hands and want to do it for hardware that protects the most expensive infrastructure on the planet, we want to talk to you.
